Beautiful classic beach photos on the Sartorialist today (above). Black and white seaside shots always remind me of George Hoyningen-Huene's serenly stylish Divers photograph (below), which I first saw on the Penguin 2000 cover of The Great Gatsby.It beautifully evokes the modernism and stark elegance of the Jazz Age. Sadly I doubt that the same will be said of me at Zandvoort this weekend, but I'm going to hold that pose all day just in case.

Mmm-hmm, I love 'stark elegance'! I wish beaches in real life were full of people with such poise. Rather than sunburnt tarts and lager louts. Bring back the Jazz Age.
